Palace of Presence Prayer-Poem
Divine One, Bless us. May we move from the slums of separation,
back home, into the mansion of Oneness.
Blessed Mother/ Father Goddessence,*
help us to remember the palace of presence we forgot was our home.
May we awake from the illusion that this physical body is all that we are.
May each yearning heart be a great sun and evaporate the mist of separation.
May our anguish, sink to the bottom of the sea,
to be devoured by the sea creatures that see through the illusion of alone.
May disturbance be replaced with serenity, fear with trust, overwhelm with focus.
May each one of us find our niche, our family whole, scarcity a nightmare abandoned.
Kidnapped by the thief of “conned-itioned mind”
we’ve been trapped in suffering.
Great Mother/ Father/ Beloved/ Divine SELF, awaken us from the nightmare of separation
And gently, grace-fully awaken us to the miracle that we already are.
Thank you Divine Grace. We are grateful and full of gratitude. We rejoice that it is so and so it is.

Deep in the Dark Night A New Day is Born: From the Caterpillar of Separation to the Butterfly of Oneness
December 28, 2010
It’s exciting to be here because we are at a pivotal time, an extraordinary time, an unprecedented time. We are in transition into a new era of humanity that is as radically different from our present way of being as a butterfly is from a caterpillar! The crisis of our time serves as the birth canal for a new identity for us--- an identity that knows it is one with all beings and all life.
We are emerging from an “Ego-logical” into an “Eco-logical” age! My mentor Thomas Berry coined the term “The Ecozoic Era,” to refer to a time when the human presence is mutually beneficial to both the whole Earth community and to each other. The human caterpillar stage is ego-based, defined by the idea and experience of separation. Their primary activity is consumerism. Caterpillars quickly strip a tree, caterpillar humans quickly strip the forests, and then they move on to consuming the planet! Butterflies sip nectar from the flowers and take only what they need.
I differentiate this new human presence with the name HUEman, HUE capitalized to symbolize a consciousness that knows itself as the whole spectrum of the human family rainbow. HUEmans know they are the ONE appearing as the many. The rainbow is a paradox: it appears to exist yet it has no solidity. A rainbow is ONE, with each color inseparable from the whole, yet each color is distinctly visible.
What if the pot of gold isn’t found somewhere else, over the rainbow, but right here on Earth, found when we realize that we are just like the rainbow--- one Divine essence expressing itself through the entire diversity of Life? What if we have to breakdown our caterpillar phase in order to breakthrough into butterfly HUEmanity?
My song “Breakdown to Breakthrough” says:
“Shinin’ rainbows show the pot of gold is lettin’ go and bein’ bold;
Enough to risk a new way of being, opening new eyes to a new way of seein,’
Openin’ new ears and openin’ new senses, jumpin’ out of conventional fences;
Openin’ up to receive the Spirit, breakin’ down resistance that fears it.”
Ego identity is like thinking you are one tiny finger instead of an entire body! Our challenge is to die to our ego’s illusions and be transformed into a “whole-i-ness” based on a subjective experience that we are one with, a part of---not apart from---the whole of life. We are holographic in nature! Let me give you an example. In a holographic image of an elephant if you cut off the trunk you have an entire image of the elephant. The only difference is one of scale—the part “cut off” of the original is a smaller replica of the original whole image! It contains the whole within it!
There is the old parable telling of the contrast between heaven and hell. I’m sure some of you have heard this story before, but it is one of my favorites and illustrates that the transformation we are experiencing is one of consciousness:
A curious man wanted to know the difference between heaven and hell. First, he was guided to hell where he saw a group of people seated around a huge pot of delicious food. They were all skin and bones, suffering and miserable. The spoons they held were very long….too long for them to feed themselves, so they sat there starving in hell.
Next, he came to heaven. As the door opened the scene was familiar. People surrounded a huge pot of sumptuous food. However, here everyone was smiling, laughing and joyful. Looking more carefully, it was apparent that the people were feeding each other and there was no lack, want or hunger.
We have been operating out of an assumption, a belief, and a “conned-ceptual” perception we could call “the myth of separation.” We’ve been taught that who we are is exclusively a person, defined by a particular body or at best a separate soul with a spiritual dimension. We are taught to think and act as if this is who we are----as if our “beingness” stopped at the boundary of our skin or was somehow encapsulated as a separate entity.
We are taught to identify ourselves as people separate from other people, nations separate from other nations, and that the whole human population is somehow separate from the planet. As if our “body temples” weren’t made out of Mother Earth---as if the liquids in our body didn’t come from the Earth’s waters, as if we could breathe without the air of the Earth’s atmosphere!
Notice how different the story of heaven and hell is when it is told from the presumption of separation or when it is told from the context of Oneness. From the premise of separation, feeding each other can appear to be charitable and generous. Seen from the perspective of Oneness, each ONE realizes it is “every-ONE-else.” Feeding and caring for each one is not just “loving thy neighbor as thy self but knowing thy neighbor is truly and actually thy divine SELF.
Environmental collapse was one of the first wake-up calls that challenged the idea that we are not connected to each other and what surrounds us. We discovered that polluted waters, air and soil create unhealthy humans and threaten the lives of countless species. It has become apparent that we are in crisis. Crisis has long been recognized as a portal for new possibilities, creativity, and emergence.
Emergency does have the word emergence as its root. The sustainability issue is now showing up in the deep fissures in our social systems. A society and economy based on separation and scarcity have created excess and poverty. We can embrace the breakdown phase of the process as a necessary “falling apart so we can come together” in an unprecedented way.
We can exercise our power by casting our vote of consciousness. We can choose to focus on a new vision based on Oneness and interconnectedness or we can default to fear, worry and lament that the old caterpillar ego is dissolving. When we see the meltdown as prerequisite for the metamorphosis into the Divine HUEman we can hold the process in a wise, compassionate embrace. This doesn’t mean ignoring the suffering created in the collapse. We can both care for all in harm’s way as the old structure collapses while we vision and create the new.
A mind and body divided creates dis-ease. Imagine the catastrophe that would result if all the body’s organs were in competition with each other rather than cooperatively co-creating together with the awareness that the entire body is their mutual greater identity. Imagine a planet where we realize that all life on Earth is integral to the greater Earth body. What if each bio-region, state, nation, ethnicity, culture and religion realized that their greater body was the ONE-EARTH-commUNITY and that the only way true peace, prosperity, health and happiness can flourish is when we identify with the whole instead of thinking we are just a little part, vying with all the other parts to get what we think we want and need. We now act like a body where the heart, lungs, liver and most of the differentiated parts are enemies. A world built of separation is not sustainable any more. The caterpillar is disintegrating as the evolutionary call to butterfly is being sounded.
I’d like to tell you another story:
Once upon a time there were two caterpillars crawling along in the grass. One looked up and saw a butterfly flying by. She poked her companion and said, “Check it out. What is that?” The second caterpillar looked up and gazed intently at the strange, winged creature and said, “I don’t know, but you’ll never find me up there in one of them!”
As caterpillars transform into butterflies, they first die to their old form as they dissolve in the chrysalis. Then “imaginal” cells that are the beginning of the butterfly emerge but they are attacked by the old caterpillar immune system that perceives them as a threat. Only when there is a critical mass of these new cells, does a system change takes place where the new organism recognizes the imaginal cells as their new butterfly identity. From that point on, the butterfly becomes the prevailing paradigm.
Could Jesus, Mahatma Ghandi, Dr. Martin Luther King, the Buddha, the great yoginis, yogis, shamans and universalists be the first “imaginal cells” of the HUEman butterfly? Could they be the first examples of an evolved HUEman identity that knows its primary unity with the Divine even as it manifests in HUEman form?
Like the caterpillars, it is difficult for us to imagine a way of life based on the experience of our ONEness. We are in transition and by definition transition refers to that territory that is neither here nor there. We have left the womb and are in the birth canal without knowing what the baby will look like.
If any one here has experienced natural birth, you know that it is very important to have assistance and the pre-knowing that the intense stage in birthing called transition is only temporary. This awareness makes all the difference in the mother’s capacity to stay focused and not panic. Understanding provides a context that meets potential fears and reassures them. Likewise, when we understand the nature of our transition, regardless of gender, we can all assist in birthing our selves into butterfly HUEmans.
In 1996 I received a poem that speaks to the transitional time we are in. It is called “The Dream of Earth Is Waking.” I’ll share the last half of the poem with you:
“We can bring forth wonder; We can bring forth peace;
We can fit together and facilitate the largest evolution to have reached the human race.
Let your fears be noticed then let them fly away; Transform them into butterflies,
Then they can lead the way to transformation so astounding we will one day laugh;
When we look back at ourselves when we didn’t think we’d last;
We’ll savor cosmic humor, an irony so deep; Truth reveals a wonder of multiplicity;
Like the creepin’ caterpillar we won’t be “no more;”
Yet we will be more fully than we ever have before.
Spread your wings of wonder; Join the cosmic dream; Awaken and fully “grok” our galactic destiny
Feeling full kinship with all of Earth’s Life, Glad to be resurrected in this awakened Life;
Butterflies of Beauty, bathing in the rain; Home is multi-dimensionality, this is our terrain.
Earth Mother is calling you to wake up from the trance; Dance Her dream into awakening,
Join in Her song; Release all your fears of something going wrong.
This day is a new day, this time is a key; Unlocking many doorways to another way to be;
Don’t miss this opportunity, it is not mere chance;
Look to your courage, dare to dance your dance.”
Courage is a great ally at this time. The word has its roots in the Latin word “cor” for heart. How do we gather our courage? One way we can benefit each one of us is to share our encouragement. We can hold the context of our evolution into Divine, HUEman butterflies, while we simultaneously soothe and give generous empathy and assistance to all needing it.
Fear arises and can be manipulated by the “caterpillar royalty” as the old economy and structures based on separation, conquest and struggle collapse. The Course of Miracles” says there are only two emotions, fear and love. We are either experiencing love or calling out for love.
Another favorite story shares a wise strategy for dealing with fear:
Trungpa Rinpoche was a Tibetan Buddhist teacher and author. One day he walked into a monastery with two attendants. Out of nowhere a huge, ferocious–looking dog came charging at them all. The attendants froze in terror, while Trungpa Rinpoche sounded a shriek and charged the dog. It ran away with its tail between its legs! Isn’t interesting how fear will stalk it until we turn around and face it. As the lyric in my song “Dive In”* suggests: “Face your fears no longer run away.” No matter what the issue, fear’s power is diminished when we look at and listen to what is afraid with compassion and courage. Fear is the fuel of the ego and separation. Love is the fruition of unity---the awareness that you are love, the lover and the beloved.
Fear is also generated because we know that a system based on individuality and separation isn’t very kind to those who don’t “succeed” in the sham of independence. We’ve lost the security the tribe provided. It is frightening if it’s your home, your work, your family, your friends, and your planet that is caught in the breakdown. And somewhere, even in separation consciousness, we know if it can happen to someone else it can also happen to us. We can choose to meet the fear with compassion, and not go into the fear, flight or freeze reaction. Community, communication and communion, rather than greed and hoarding, is the antidote to the poison of feeling isolated or victimized.
Caterpillar economy is rooted in war-related activities, dis-ease-management that masquerades as health care, and destruction of the Earth’s ecosystems for energy when new possibilities “in the wings” are thwarted. Competition becomes an end in itself, rather than being a vehicle to provide excellence for the greater good.
We’ve been programmed by the monopoly mentality. We live in a topsy-turvy world where the Oneness of the essential reality has been mimicked in what appears as the external reality. When we come home to our unity we simultaneously embrace and “cell-ebrate” diversity. We recognize that there is a place and niche for “everyONE” and that sometimes that can look like someone is “doing nothing.”
Buckminister Fuller, spoke of the power of the individual by his example of the tiny trim tab on a sailing vessel, only a teeny bit of the mass of the ship, that is capable of turning the whole ship around, also assured us that the inventiveness and genius of an awakened, non-exploitive economic system would easily pay for a few “doing nothing.”
We are learning that a standing tree creates greater value and benefit than lumber. Just by virtue of its existence, it keeps the soil intact, provides clean air, and shade. It is a host for birds, insects, and stabilizes weather, insulates and is a windbreaker. Likewise we can realize that humans are inherently valuable without a need to prove their worth by working. Is it better to “make a living” by destroying our planet, and creating tools of destruction or by living lives that are healthy, happy and do no harm. Preventive health measures insure fewer high cost interventions; lower stress means less “dis-ease,” less crime, less suffering for all. It would be cheaper and wiser if everyone received a monthly sum to stay well, enact peace and follow their heart’s desires! We are moving into plork--- the union of play and work.
Eco-biologist Elizabet Sautoris has noted that it is far wiser to feed the life forms perceived as enemies than to go war with them. When we realize our oneness, and no longer invest in destruction, we will have plenty to take care of the basic needs of all. This strategy is both caring and wise, for the healthier every part of the whole is, the healthier the whole. If we are all “cell-ves” in a greater “CELL-F” then it is far smarter to make sure the needs of each cell is met for in meeting the needs of another “cell-f” you are also investing in your own well-being.
Butterfly economy has “thrive-ability” as its intent. Co-operation, co-creation and communion create a community where authentic needs are met. There is an understanding that the personal and the universal complement each other. “EachONE’s” unique abilities, passion and bliss are honored. Tasks that are necessary, but not inherently fun, can be shared so no one gets stuck with them.
When we look out exclusively for out personal self and family, we have a few who are interested in our wellbeing. If “everyONE” were to look out for the whole then each ONE of us would have everyONE else caring about our “well-fare.” You don’t need to be a mathematician to see which way the benefits go!
Fear would have us bicker with each other, fight over scraps, fall prey to the “divide and conquer” weapon always used by BIG EGO to dominate and control. Our real power derives from our ability to no longer buy into the duality of either/or thinking and graduate to the awareness that life is a living paradox beyond yes/no and right/wrong. Once more going back to the circle, each perspective has its own information and wisdom. As in the ancient tale of the blind men and the elephant, there is no need for any ONE’s right to make some ONE else to be wrong! Both/and much, much more accommodates the knowledge rooted in wholistic intelligence. Paradox avoids the divisions, labels, antagonism that comes from either you are right or you are wrong. Perspective creates a plurality of viewpoints, an abundance of context.
“We are emptiness and form; The rebel and the norm. We are the dark. We are the light. We are love. We are delight. We are the Uni-verse as we. We are not a separate me. We are the U-ni-verse, we’re ONE, before the Cosmos was begun, we are the Great Mystery.”
“U” are the U in the U-ni-verse awakening and remembering the U-nity that U are! Furthermore, the words unit and unity are verbs when you spell them phonetically as in the verb “knit” creating the terms “U-knit-y” and U-knit.” We are not passive objects, shuffled around in a random arrangement. We are receivers and transmitters, intimately involved in the world we inhabit and create.
Dark is a term that has been kidnapped by division. Look at the prejudices and the class structures in the world and we can see the picturing out of the image that dark is synonymous with evil, ignorance and sin. Yet, it is in the dark of the night sky that the millions and billions of stars are revealed. The dark night of the soul is associated with struggle and despair, yet it is also the gateway to dawn. Daylight’s conscious awareness illuminates the gifts that were given in the depths of dark. We each have a dream messaging service bringing us insights and perspectives we are blind to in the light of the Sun.
The late poet John O’Donohue said ”We come out of the night into the day. All creativity awakens at this primal threshold where light and darkness test and bless each other.” Physicist Nassim Haramein asserts that white and black w-holes are one and the same! The white w-hole is around the black w-hole. The light radiating stars are the outside of the black w-hole within them. There is a constant relationship between the expansive and contractive parts.” They are not separate!!!!! What an affirmation for the equality and complementary nature of the dark and the light---the female and the male! Imagine what transformation will occur when we model and design our way of being around this radical equality between the yin and the yang, rest and activity, doing and being
Haramein also speaks of us as being “the event horizon,” the threshold between the infinitely large and the infinitely small. He says we live in a holofractal universe. Remember, in a hologram every part contains the whole. The fractal nature of the Universe refers to the realization the wholes are nested within each other, much like Chinese dolls fit one within the other, into infinitely larger and infinitely smaller wholes! Atoms are black w-holes within cells within organs within bodies within planets within solar systems within galaxies, within galactic clusters, within our uni-verse.
Haramein says, “that when you become aware of this, “your way of being in the Universe, the way you are, how you are, completely changes. Because you start to see the importance of your observation, you start to see the importance of your interpretation of the field and what you are feeding the Universe.” “Instead of seeing yourself as an insignificant little dot that means nothing to the Universe, you start to see yourself as the center of creation. Everyone else is the center of their Universe as well and thus we are all equal and we are all One.”
The camels of ego are collapsing. We have wandered, parched in the desert of possession for so long. Full of acquisition; we are thirsty for peace. The caravan of consciousness is on the move. The mirages of maya are dissolving in the dawn of awakening. We are the “ONE-der-full ONEs waking up to the ONE-der.” The gospel---yes, the good news---is that today I am remembering and you’re remembering and we are “re-member-ing” that we are the “wholly-w-hole!”
We are the “glory-us” Divine diversity. We are the new alphabet co-creating a new language of possibilities based on the “thrive-ability” of the whole rather that the “possessiveness of the few. We are a new posse rounding “in” instead of up! We rey-diate out our radiance coded with recipes for possible humans, possible planet, possible dreams. We’re the ONEs the future will know as the range riders who wrestled the “steer-ing” of impossibility back to the ground of Being from which the possible Heaven of Earth emerged.
Re-UNION is a h-OM-e c-OM-ing to the lotus heart that never lost its petals. Birth and death are but projections on the transparent screen of Life. Blessed benevolence is the balm and perfume released by forgiveness.
Forgiveness is a key unlocking all we have ever yearned for---the pervasive peace that heals all imagined wounds, all conflicted thoughts and all the scrambled eggs of separation. When you know the two is really The One, the tango of truth disarms the ego’s weapons and we twirl in the waltz of “ONEder.” The boundless butterfly of awakening kisses us with its wings and we fly fearless on the winds of ONEder.
Word and world are only one---check it out---letter apart from each other! Worlds are made of words. Words are world makers. You are the one ONE, as every-one is the one ONE, that shapes and breathes life into the wor-l-d you create and experience. We are the ONE, multi-faceted Divine Diamond, returning to the home in our heart where we realize that we are all the One Divine Love.
We are the rainbow-butterfly-HUEman, the wholly w-hole, the diamond and all its facets, the dark and the light, Divine Love and Delight, we are, everyone of us, the Great Mystery!

entangled; all correlated. It’s an incredible dance occurring between all points in the universe that produces the self-organizing systems and that everyone is part of the dance and that we can connect with the fundamental dynamics of that structure, of this possibility, within our self, within each point in our existence, and that that brings us to the point of transcendence.” Additionally, one of the callers mentioned the name of a woman I had met in Hawaii in 1992 and had lost contact with. After the call I searched the web and found that she has written a book on a near death experience (NDE) she had. I found her email address, wrote to her, and then clicked on a link where I found the following account by the now late George Rodonaia. In 1976 he was hit by a car and left in a morgue for three days before he was revived as a doctor began to make an incision in his belly! This is an excerpt from his tale: During this time the light just radiated a sense of peace and joy to me. It was very positive. I was so happy to be in the light. And I understood what the light meant. I learned that all the physical rules for human life were nothing when compared to this unitive reality. I also came to see that a black hole is only another part of that infinity which is light. I came to see that reality is everywhere. That it is not simply the earthly life but the infinite life. Everything is not only connected together, everything is also one. So I felt a wholeness with the light, a sense that all is right with me and the universe. Many people have asked me what I believe in, how my NDE changed my life. All I can say is that I now believe in the God of the universe. Unlike many other people, however, I have never called God the light, because God is beyond our comprehension. God, I believe, is even more than the light, because God is also darkness. God is everything that exists, everything - and that is beyond our ability to comprehend at all. So I don't believe in the God of the Jews, or the Christians, or the Hindus, or in any one religion's idea of what God is or is not. It is all the same God, and that God showed me that the universe in which we live is a beautiful and marvelous mystery that is connected together forever and for always. Anyone who has had such an experience of God, who has felt such a profound sense of connection with reality, knows that there is only one truly significant work to do in life, and that is love; to love nature, to love people, to love animals, to love creation itself, just because it is. To serve God's creation with a warm and loving hand of generosity and compassion - that is the only meaningful existence. Thank you so much for attention and for the opportunity to share my passion and enthusiasm with you. We barely touched on Nassim’s encyclopedic work with many more equally profound implications that challenge our old notions about death, our past and our future. Please sign up for my newsletter and let me know if you’d like to explore this work in greater depth. The paper will be posted on my website as a blog. I would love if you’d like to join me in a seminar where we can really dive into the material. manifold sheers and produces atoms and then these are shot out. That is reality production. We are all little vortices that sheered off the massive black w-hole that is the center of our galaxy.” Haramein’s paper “The Schwarzschild Proton” received the prestigious “best paper award” at Leige, Belgium in August 2009. This paper describes the nuclei of an atom as a mini black hole! At the November Delegate Training that I attended, Haramein said “Our Universe can be considered to be a black w-hole, that is why it is black at night. “ “Gravity is the force that that holds to the center. It is the mother holding the child. The force that held all the information that exists today. Gravity is the support that supports everything you do - your link to the Mother/Father, your link to the infinite nature. This statement concurs with cosmologist Brian Swimme’s description of gravity as allurement or love, the force that holds us together. “There is enough stars that we would have light at night from the stars if we were not in a black w-hole. There is a singularity at the center of all things. The space inside universe is highly curved.” And here it gets even more amazing---white and black w-holes are one and the same! The white w-hole is around the black w-hole. The light radiating stars are the outside of the black w-hole within them. There is a constant relationship between the expansive and contractive parts.” They are not separate!!!!! What an affirmation for the equality and complementary nature of the dark and the light---the female and the male! I have to confess that this excites me enormously because back in the seventies the awareness of the holographic nature of the Universe came to me in a revelation. I had no science to confirm it, but I received this information clearly and powerfully in a cosmic, intuitive download. The first song I wrote, in 1981, was called “The Holographic Love Song.” Some years later when I wondered what to call my band, the name “The Holographic Donuts” came to me. Then the Uni-verse gave me the gift of a song called The W-hole in the W-holographic Donut in 2001. It is thrilling when intuitive insights are confirmed by scientific discoveries. Here’s a sample verse and the chorus of the “Donut” song. A dog will dig a hole to bury her bone Holographic connections don’t need a cell phone Black holes, white holes, we’re all rollin’ round Singin’ our music, diggin’ our sound We are kin to the stars The Earth and the Sun We are made to be happy, Enjoy and have fun! I’m the w-hole in the w-holographic donut Whole in the deep blue sea W-hole in the w-holographic donut Part of the Mystery I’m w-hole as w-hole as wholly can be I’m the w-hole in the deep blue sea! Recently the magazine New Science reported, “Our world may be a giant hologram.” In a holographic image if you were to cut off the trunk of an elephant you would not have section with an image of the part of an elephant that is a trunk. You would have an image of the entire elephant, but on a smaller scale than the original! The implications are that we all fractals, containing and contained within the w-hole. Electrocardiogram or ECG readings of the heart confirm that the human body produces an electrical field which radiates 12 to 15 feet beyond the body. Recent research suggests, as well, that the electromagnetic (or em) energy produced by the heart spirals out and curves back towards the heart in the shape of a torus, the shape of a donut ring. This torus is holographic; any point within the torus has access to the information of the whole field of the heart. This means that any point within the heart’s electromagnetic field contains all the frequencies of the heart’s spectrum. If electromagnetic torus fields are holographic, any point in the heart has access not only to the heart field, but also to universal information. According to Joseph Chilton Pearce, the universe is a "nested hierarchy of toroid energy systems that extend possibly from the minuscule atom to human to planet, solar system, and ultimately, the galaxy. Being centered in the heart is, in effect, being centered in the universe, allowing one access to a universal source of power.” Chilton also predicts, “Our whole cosmology will shift dramatically when we realize what I call the "holographic heart." But, you see, at the very time we're moving into a period of total chaos and collapse, this other incredible thing is simply gathering. I think of Ilya Prigogine’s comments that so long as a system is stable, or at an equilibrium, you can't change it, but as it moves toward disequilibrium and falls into chaos then the slightest bit of coherent energy can bring it into a new structure.” This awareness can help us to accept and trust that the breakdown or death of the old structures that we are experiencing is also the catalyst to the breakthrough and birth of a new way of being. Cosmology is the bridge that translates scientific findings about “what is” to the consciousness of humans. Cosmology transforms knowledge into wisdom. Information is linked and the implications of the discoveries are woven into the cultural awareness that shapes and informs the way we live. This territory, where the perennial questions of “who are we, why are we, and what are we” exist, are where my ears perk up and my blood quickens. How fortunate we are to live at this time, where despite the challenges of the old dysfunctional forms coming apart all around us, new perspectives about who we are and our relationship to everything else is simultaneously arising. Haramein’s work complements and continues the legacy of “The Universe Story” as written by the late Thomas Berry and the contemporary cosmologist Brian Swimme. They proposed that the scientific and astronomical discoveries about the nature of the Universe are revelations about Life itself. Humans now share a common creation story, a story that allows us to view ourselves within the context of the Universe. We are the recipients of information generations before us never had. All the religious traditions that have shaped the human concepts of god, the universe, and life itself did not have the vantage points we now have. Even the mystics, shamans and founders of religions, who had direct experiences of Divinity and the interconnection of all Life, did not have the awareness of the micro and macro uni-verse as we are now discovering it to be. The implications of this are enormous. All of our primary societal, spiritual and architectural traditions are based on a world-view that no longer concurs with what science is unveiling. The idea that creation was a one-time event in the past is being shown to be inaccurate. The idea of a linear uni-verse, progressing one-dimensionally doesn’t concur with what we are finding out. We live in an omni-dimensional web of life where creation is an on-going feature of what is! Even the big bang theory, as it is currently being lauded, is being challenged by Haramain, who says, “ The universe is constantly banging.” I believe the late visionary Buckminster Fuller would concur. He said “God is a verb.” Contemporary spiritual teacher, Bhagavan, founder of The Oneness Blessing Movement, says the same. We are discovering that we are all not only part of creation but co-creators, always in connection, and as part of a universal feedback system, always contributing to all that is. Bucky also said, “We are not going to be able to operate our Spaceship Earth successfully, nor for much longer, unless we see it as a whole spaceship and our fate as common. It has to be everybody or nobody. He had great faith in the power of any single individual to change the direction of the whole, using the example of the tiny rudder, called a trim tab, that enabled huge ships to turn. Haramein’s optimistic that solutions to our energy crisis will be found by tapping into the huge energy potential of the vacuum. He is encouraged that we will soon be able to have all kinds of technological breakthroughs that will free us from the scarcity paradigm and prevent us from further devastating Mother Earth in our appetite for fuel. We are on the threshold of taking a collective leap, a metamorphosis from what I call “caterpillar consciousness,” obsessed with consuming, to “butterfly consciousness,” feeding on the nectar of being. Recognition of our mutual divinity is the key to our ability to create a mode of being which is harmonious with each other and Mother Earth. I am going to leave you with a couple of challenges: First--- I invite you to recognize the limitations and inaccuracy of rigidly posing one position against another, as we see how this fallacy has created tremendous discord and conflict. The idea that an answer is an “either/or,” either this or that, has created an atmosphere where people “fight to be right” instead of learning what the other position has to contribute. Now we learn that the very structure of the Uni-verse is a both/and and beyond, in this case the beyond being synergy, the w-hole that is greater than the sum of its parts. We can step out of the “no-winners circle” and instead respect a plurality of vantage points, looking to learn from each. Indeed, we discover each one of us is a unique vantage point, all sharing the same internal oneness. “Paradox rocks, paradox sings, paradox lives in the heart of all things” is the way it expressed itself in one of my poems! And as synchronicity would have it, Nassim made the following statement on last night’s teleseminar: “When I’ve encountered the largest problems in the research I’ve done, specifically when I realized that it wasn’t one or the other, but most likely both, that I got my largest revelations.” How did we carve the Cosmos into bad and good, dark and white, as if it were a turkey’s carcass, there for our dismemberment? Is not birth the cause of death? And what is death but a birth canal to the beyond? We take complementary inter-connected twin-doms and put them in opposite corners of a boxing ring. We root for our favorite to upset the “foe” we’ve imagined into existence by dissection. We watch the wrestling match we’ve created and feel victorious when “our good” pins down “their bad.” The social implications of this split and resulting schizophrenia havs created countless, needless, suffering. Secondly --- I invite you to catch yourself when you use language that equates good, awareness and spirituality with the light and bad, ignorance and evil with the dark. We do not have to look far to realize that persons of color and women have been the two most oppressed people on Earth. Mother Earth Herself has been regarded as a thing to be raped and converted into “resources” with no regard for effects on Her or the whole-Earth community. As we realize that everything is sacred, and that you are everything, there is no more “other” to be violated! All becomes kin, whether Mother, brother or lover! And the way to live with our kin is to be kind and compassionate. Lastly --- I invite you to: See the miracle that you are; Let your love shine like a star Let yourself be pleased to be; Celebrate the miracle of you and me This was to be my end point for today, but I have to share some synchronistic happenings that just occurred. Last night I joined a teleseminar that Nassim offers every month. I had the opportunity to let him know that I would be featuring his work in this talk. I asked him, “If there was one thing you’d like to convey at this time, regarding your work, what would it be?” He replied, “I think the most important thing is that we are reaching unification and that we are starting to realize that each point in our universe, each point in our body, each section of our existence, is connected to all other points in the universe. It is all
U and The Uni-verse: Wholly, W-hole-y, Whole-ly---The Unfolding Story
March 15, 2010
Every body is sacred. Not just every human but everything. We are in a process of shedding the illusion of separation and awakening into the realization of Oneness. This oneness is not a puree or homogenous brew stripped of all spices and individual differentiation. When we awaken into Oneness we recognize that we are already one with “all that is” both in essence and in outer form. We shift into an appreciating, cherishing and respecting of diversity. Everything on our planet is an expression of Earth. All creatures are the ears and eyes, ecstasies and cries, of our Mother. We are cells. To be “cell-f conscious” is to be awake. Ego’s viewpoint is like mouse, not seeing beyond its whiskers. Gliding upon hawk’s wings we expand our views of consciousness and board a new flight of fancy and imagination. We are the spokes-people. The planet is our hub. The wheel that turns is the circle of life. We are in the middle of perhaps the most significant transformation the human species has ever experienced. Today we will take a look at some of the key notions that are lifting us out of the ideas that have kept us trapped in divisive, conflictive, modes of being, bringing untold suffering to ourselves and our Earth. I have faith in the innate power of our in-heir-ent divinity to weather the crisis as we journey down the birth canal. We have the opportunity to be born again--- not into any particular faction of belief--- instead, into an experience of unity, joy and creation the likes of which we have never seen on Earth before. This is the first era, that all-over-the planet, humans share the vantage point of looking back at Earth from space and seeing one great, gorgeous sphere---the lapis-lazuli jewel that is our home. Although new evidence is indicating that a few of our ancestors were aware that the Earth was part of a galactic community, we are the first generation, en mass, to learn, through instruments of science, that we live in a galaxy with billions of stars, within super-galaxies with billions of galaxies within them. Likewise, we are finding that we can go infinitely small and never come to the end or find the smallest particle. Each time we think we find it another tinier particle is found: we went from cells to atoms, billions of which inhabit cells, to protons, neutrons, the nucleus of an atom, then quarks and so on. Nassim Haramein, a brilliant physicist, mathematician and cosmologist, demonstrates that within a boundary there is the possibility of infinite division. He asks, “Why is this important? Well, if you were taking these principles and applying them to yourself, you could start to visualize, you could start to imagine, you could start to experience, that maybe within the confines of the finite structure you are in, is the potential of infinite division, the potential of infinite amounts of information. Philosophically, that has a very powerful impact on someone’s consciousness. It just happens to be very similar to what many of the masters that have walked the earth have talked about, that within is god, the Kingdom of Heaven, infinite boundaries and so on, or infinite potential and so on.” He says, “You are infinitely embedded in yourself.” Haramein asks, “If you wanted to find something that connects all things what would it be? What makes it all one?” He answers his own question with a word that the ancients also spoke of as the source of the world of form, and that word is space! Haramein says, “Space is everywhere and everything. Even at the atomic level 99% of everything in the material world is space.” The purpose of today’s talk is to re-mind, re-awaken, and inspire you to re-vise (rev-eyes) and realize (re-all-eyes) your “cell-f” as being one with “The One Great W-hole-iness” whose body is the Universe. Wow! That may seem preposterous and really egotistical you might say; yet as we begin to re-explore this identity we call “me,” and this form we regard as “my body,” we are going to discover some amazing new perspectives. Instead of reinforcing a sense of separation or ego, we are discovering how interconnected, amazing and miraculous we all are. My intention is that all of us here today may be inspired to appreciate the unique opportunity we have now, as we approach 2012, to experience a quantum leap in our consciousness, as we awaken to our cosmic dimensions and become the “butterfly human.” I invite you to join in this awakening, in a celebration of U… the U that U are, and (as congregants so apply named Unitarian Universalists) you can easily remind yourself that U are the Uni-verse with the abbreviated letters “U R U” symbolizing the awareness that the Uni-verse is expressing its great CELL-f through U! Beneath the surface of personality U can look with new eyes, an open mind and a loving heart, at the “awe-sum” being U actually R. Awakening or enlightenment is no more exclusively about the individual, yet paradoxically, the individual is a key to the transition. We are called to recognize that we are more than we imagined and different than our conneditioning taught us to believe. We are in the pressure cooker and we are the popcorn expanding beyond the hull of the ego. The illusion that we are separate entities can no longer contain or confine us. We are popping out of the perception that we are tiny, separate kernels and discovering ourselves as planetary and cosmic people, thereby transforming and creating a new way of being here on Earth. We are leaving behind the constant consumerism of the caterpillar and transforming into the butterfly human. Key to this awakening is the embracing of The Divine Feminine, the yin in the yin/yang, the dark as well as the light. Many indigenous elders, including the 13 Grandmothers, the esoteric Council of Grandmothers and Malidoma Some have taught that our human dysfunction stems from the male energies surging out of control. We see that our excessive emphasis on doing, what I call “do-do,” creates this radical imbalance. The neglect of the female polarity is one of the major contributors to the destruction of Mother Earth and to the epidemic of violence against Nature, women and children that rages all around the planet. Haramein’s work also shows how the yin polarity is the equal partner in the structure of the universe! Within the vacuum there are complementary yin and yang components --- the vector equilibrium and the star tetrahedron. Together they form a sixty-four sided tetrahedron structure, one side that points out and one that points in. Haramein exclaimed, “And now, I had both sides of the event horizon, the radiative and the contractive side, all in one mathematical matrix that was producing both to generate the feedback of creation.” Yet, he realized there was still more to be found because it is not just the structure but the dynamics that account for the way creation takes place. Einstein said that gravity is the result of space-time curving like the surface of a trampoline. Haramein and his associate Elizabeth Rauscher say, “Yes, when space time curves, it doesn’t just curve, but it curls, just like water going down the drain, and that generates spin, angular momentum. And that’s the source of the spin of all things.” This space-time curl generates a torus structure which is a sphere with holes in the middle at the North and South Poles. It has Coriolis forces that make the water rotate in one direction in the northern hemisphere and in the other in the southern hemisphere. The result is a double torus structure, a double torus manifold, that when viewed from above is like a rotating yin/yang sign. This makes for a new view of the universe because now space-time is the source for spin, coriolis forces, and the magnetic fields. “Now you have a feedback between the gravitational field and the space time torque.” When the torus is looked at from above, space or the vacuum is in the middle. The middle of the donut has a hole. This is where singularity, an infinity involving curvature in a space-time continuum, would be in the center of a black hole. Haramein actually has coined the term Holofractographic to describe the holographic and nonlinear fractal structure of the universe. A fractal is a shape that appears to be similar at all scales of magnification and is referred to as infinitely complex. Haramein and physicist Elizabeth Rauscher mapped out a mathematical scaling law that illustrates the fractal nature of the Universe. Michael Dowd, author of “Thank God for Evolution” illustrates fractals with Chinese dolls, nested one within the other. The scaling law unifies everything from the infinitely small to the infinitely large, and demonstrates that all can be described under the conditions of a black hole. Most exciting is their discovery that “The biological resolution is the link between the large and the small.” Haramein says, “You are the event horizon. And you are the data transfer boundary from the extremely large to the extremely small. You gather information and you transfer it to your internal self that in this view has infinite boundary potential. You are transferring that information to your boundary to the infinite of the Universe within yourself.” This perspective is resonant with the Celtic wisdom of the late poet John O’Donohue, who said ”We come out of the night into the day. All creativity awakens at this primal threshold where light and darkness test and bless each other.” As a result of realizing that you are this event horizon, Haramein says “your way of being in the Universe, the way you are, how you are, completely changes. Because you start to see the importance of your observation, you start to see the importance of your interpretation of the field and what you are feeding the Universe. “Instead of seeing yourself as an insignificant little dot that means nothing to the Universe, you start to see yourself as the center of creation. Everyone else is the center of their Universe as well and thus we are all equal and we are all One.” Now hold on to your hats. We’ve all heard of black holes and most of us have had the idea that they devour and suck material into them. Instead, Haramein asserts that black w-holes are the wombs of stars. He says, “Black w-holes have to be there prior to the galaxies.” Matter is produced at the center of black w-holes because space-time
Spring is a Time of Resurrection, March 2009
March 10, 2009
Happy Spring to all! The Vernal Equinox is the time when you can actually put an egg on its end and it will maintain its balance. Earth Day was also celebrated on the first day of spring, a date favored by Margaret Mead and John McConnell, early founders and proponents of Earth Day and the Earth Charter. It is encouraging to note how far we've come in a very short time. Although challenges are omnipresent it can be helpful to remember words like recycling, planet Earth, sustainability and ecology were not household terms, just like the computer was not a household component, a mere thirty-to-forty years ago! I am feeling a lot of excitement and gratitude for blessings in my personal life and in our collective planetary community crisis which comes at a time to awaken us from a way of living that ushered in an extinction rate that threatens so many of our beloved animal companions, plants, birds and of course our human species. Most of evolutions’ most starting breakthroughs have come at times of breakdown. May we be able to re-invent our economy to be a real ECO-nomy, leaving behind the notion that excess growth and consumption are supposed to be a basis for a functioning monetary system. Remember, humans invented this modality and therefore can reinvent it. I am looking forward to a new bottom line that is mutual benefit for all life on Earth. The excess-money-makers have been a parasitic presence draining dignity and sustainability from life on the planet. We have much to learn from ecology and nature. We've learned that a standing tree is more beneficial than pieces of lumber. Once we counted the service rendered by the standing tree - its preservation of riverbanks and the forests that provide us with our life breath while monitoring the hydrosphere - we can begin to appreciate the shortsighted, fragmented thinking that has also failed to factor in the value of healthy humans. What would society look like if we were to provide humans with the basic needs that would cut off the need for the sacrifice of soul for the money to survive? What great gifts would come to the community were we encouraged and supported in following our hearts in our vocational service? How many of us would be doing the work that is calling us if we weren’t tied to antiquated “insurance” systems that require us to continue to stay in situations that no longer serve our purpose and thereby compromise our ability to render quality service. What would it look like if we were satisfied beings, sharing and peaceful, once off the treadmill of activity continually in pursuit of a future by sacrificing the present? Spring is a time of resurrection, flowering and rebirth. May we all be energized and feel a renewal that will enable us to each re-connect and be a part of a new awareness that reveals that we are more than stewards of the Earth. She is calling us to remember that we are of the Earth, dependent on Her clean air for every healthy breath, Her clean waters to quench our thirst, Her “not too hot, not to cold” Goldilocks climate to keep us alive and her fertile soil to feed us. May one of each of us respond to Mother Earths calling by listening to our heart and finding our calling by bringing all our talents to the fore, and devoting ourselves to transform suffering into sufficiency, separateness into unity, and apparent dead-ends into a new, vibrant, journey into creative community.
